I could use some brass knuckles...
Funny thing, y'know - the very first post I ever made in a BoB fandom community, before even the great rewatch of 2008, was in a stamping comm, so this is all kind of a nostalgia trip. (No, I'm not telling you what I was stamped as then. Should be interesting to see if it comes out the same.)

Name/Nickname: Skew.

Age: 22.

Occupation: Hospital clerk - handling appointments and fetching case notes and things. Basically, I'm a civilian Radar O'Reilly.

Likes: Writing, drawing, good TV, hard liquor (Scottish whisky for preference, though I'm also partial to gin), baking, comic books, punk rock, being nostalgic for times when I wasn't even alive, lengthy bullshit sessions, talking at unnecessary length about arses, political theory, banjos, badass lieutenants who worked their way up through the ranks from scratch, hats, terrible solo disco dancing, outer space. And starting sentences with 'and'.

Dislikes: Wilful ignorance, bigotry, wasps, hot weather, mayonnaise.

Strengths: I'm kind of a knowledge sponge; if a subject interests me, I'm really quick to absorb new information about it. I'm creative, especially with words. I enjoy making people laugh. I'd like to think I'm good at giving advice and cheering people up, too, though I'm not quite so sure I am.

Weaknesses: I worry, constantly, about pretty much everything - I look calm on the outside but inside it's all panic and neuroticism. I can be a bit cold and stand-offish, and I have difficulty expressing affection. I'm also very clumsy, and I take a long time to pick up practical, non-academic skills.

More In-depth

Introvert or extrovert?: Strongly introverted. That doesn't mean I'm bad with people, or that I have no friends; it's just that I find social interaction tiring and I need lots of time by myself to recharge. I enjoy my own company.

Hard Worker or layabout (or somewhere in between)?: Hard worker on things that I actually care about, but otherwise, I'm a terminal slacker. I procrastinate a lot, and I've got 'putting in the absolute minimum necessary' down to a fine art.

Are you the leader type?: No. I'm one of nature's sidekicks; I hitch myself to people with more dominant personalities and supply endless loyalty and amusing commentary in return for them organising my shit for me.

Are you adept at raising others' spirits?: I try to be. Being funny's always been important to me, and I have a tendency to hand out reassuring advice regardless of whether anyone wants it or not.

Do you consider yourself popular?: Uh, I don't think that's something that can really be judged by yourself, is it? I don't think so - like I said, I'm a second banana, not the leading man, so people are fond of me, but I'm rarely the centre of attention.

People who first meet you probably think you are: Quiet and a little odd. People who don't know me very well seem to think I'm a lot more naive than I really am, too.

How do you handle high-pressure situations?: I get panicky and snappy. I can handle it - but I will flap around and swear a lot and I generally need the support of others, or else I'll just end up hiding.

Are you self-motivated, or do you rely on the encouragement of others?: I'm very strongly self-motivated, though encouragement is nice. In certain situations, when I'm not confident in my abilities, I have a tendency to wait until given permission by an authority figure, which is probably a bit annoying for them. But I'd rather be seen as vaguely cowardly than take the initiative and then fuck everything up.

Do you work through unpleasant situations for your own satisfaction, or to prove yourself to others?: Mostly if I do that, I do it because I have to. I don't know which of the two options that counts as.

We Stand Alone Together

Your weekend pass has been revoked. What were you planning on using it for?: Head down to London to see the sights and get shitfaced drunk with my buddies. Maybe sneak out and head down to Soho or Piccadilly and see if I can pick up some other lonely GI, though knowing my luck I'd completely strike out, go off in a sulk, and end up sleeping off the booze on the platform of an Underground station, where I would be discovered the next morning by some disapproving MPs. Knowing this, I might not be too bothered by losing the pass.

You've been dropped into Normandy. You're all alone, it's pitch black, and there are Germans round every corner. How do you react? Who do you encounter on your trek to meet up with the rest of your battalion?: Realistically? Scream, shit myself, and spend the next week cowering under a hedge. But we're presuming somehow I've been tough enough to pass training, so... I'd lie low and play it safe, sticking very close to cover, creeping along in the ditches until I found somebody, anybody, vaguely friendly, who I'd follow along with until we got to somewhere where I could meet up with the rest of the company.

You're caught in heavy fire and you see a buddy take a hit a few feet away from you. Do you go and help him, or immediately dive for cover?: I dive for cover and then peep out and figure whether he's going to survive the wound and/or if I can get to him safely. If so, I'd ask my mates to cover me and go pull him to safety; but only if it's feasible.

Many of your fellow paratroopers take the opportunity to grab a few souvenirs whilst billeting in towns. What, if anything, do you take and why?: Mostly small, perishable things. Food, booze, smokes, that sort of stuff. I've no need for valuables or personal items. I might grab something big and shiny from Berchtesgaden, though, just to show the folks back home. And I wouldn't say no to a Luger, though I wouldn't run out under fire just to grab one.

War is over. What are your plans for the future?: Head back home and try and get on with my life, probably. Take advantage of the GI Bill and study something interesting; maybe write my memoirs, in my spare time.

Please include 1-3 photos of yourself (optional):
I include the caveat here that this was taken with my crappy webcam, and also that I don't photograph at all well. But yes, BEHOLD ME AND MY BIG SQUASHY FACE.

Is my handwriting just that bad that it looks backward even when it's not?

So...reading this, I got a strong Nixon vibe. Mostly because of your weekend pass answer and your move for self-preservation if someone else is hurt (which is not a bad thing). And the booze!

Nixon is also highly intelligent and that comes across in your app too; he can get emotional and agitated ("She's keeping my dog!") but also keeps to himself when he gets overly so.

hmmm, i'd say Liebgott. I can totally see him in your In-depth section answers - from how you handle high-pressure situations, to what's going on in your head. And also the trying to be funny and handing out reassuring advice, while being loyal and supplying amusing commentary -- it has a feel like him to me. And this combined with your introvertedness and that internally you can be panicked but outward you'll do your job/get shit done, and what you'd do with your weekend pass, lmfao, I'd definitely say Liebgott.

my second thought was Nixon, like the commenter above me, and I can definitely see a lot of him too, but i think Liebgott wins out imo.

I would say you are Harry based on you indepth answers, these in particular. Also, you're pretty cute. :D

Ahh, I think you're just saying that 'cause you know I like him!

I have one or two things in common with Harry, but he's incredibly outgoing and confident, and I'm absolutely not. I am quite Harry-like when I'm drunk, mind you - and I'm often drunk. (Well, I like my booze, but I can't handle it. Two drinks and I'm under the table, three and I'm under the host.)

Also, thank you for the compliment!

YES WE FINALLY GET TO SEE YOU!!!! <3 pretty boy. Love that hair :P

Back to business now... I was initially going to go for Harry, but then I read the more in-depth part. Based on those answers, esp the leadership question, raising spirits and popular questions, I'm going to go for Lipton. Now get yourself some Speirs, boy!
Skew: parachutesskew_whiff on May 15th, 2011 12:18 pm (UTC)
Makes me feel ~mysterious~.

Also, I think I prefer my men a little less terrifying than Speirs. (Though he is blatantly a giant awkward dork under the trolling, and we could geek out about the Romans...)

Lol, that's what archae_ology said about her app as well! Then I said I should probably stamp her as Sobel, since he's seen as the guy who ~made~ E. Co. to what they were. Reckon that goes for you too?

Even so, he remains hot. And he ooobviously loves Lip, letting him sleep in his bed *g*

Nobody seems to be quite sure! Which I'm finding quite entertaining.

I always saw a lot of myself in Penkala, but maybe that's just me projecting a bit to make him easier to write. Never really paid much attention to Lip, y'know, but now these comparisons have been made I'm going to be watching him much more closely the next time I give the series another go-round.

so i can't really justify my stamp except by waving vaguely at all of your answers but i got a really strong perconte vibe from the entirety of your application. :)

No, I can totally see what you're getting at, actually. And it's hilarious.

I'd go for Nix, cause of the hard drinking. It seems like the rest of the info would fall in line.
Do you permit it?: Jon has squishy facesilentchord on May 23rd, 2011 09:31 pm (UTC)
I think i'm going to go with Nixon, overall. I see him pretty much throughout, but your answer to 'are you the leader type?' question had be almost shrieking out 'Nix!' at the computer. Annnd then when I went back to reread from the beginning, couldn't believe I had trouble trying to pin you down. Yup, Nixon for sure.
